Enjoy the sun, get a breath of fresh air by the sea!
When you say Fuengirola, you say BEACH! A long promenade with beautiful palm trees, colourful flowers and the endless sandy beach is a great place to enjoy the sea. You can go running or cycling, take an endless stroll or admire a breathtaking sunset...
Fuengirola has everything. If you want to enjoy a lively coastal atmosphere, there are plenty of nice restaurants and cocktail bars in the nearby harbour. It is also the perfect place to watch the fishing boats sail away with a refreshing drink. This harbour is located at a few metres from Appartement Summer. The beautiful old centre is also within walking distance. As we said ... Fuengirola actually has everything!
Fuengirola = Beach. Fuengirola has beautiful beaches, all with their own character. El Ejido, Santa Amalia, San Francisco, Los Boliches, Las Gaviotas, Carvajal and Torreblanca. At most beaches, everything is available, cosy beach restaurants with delicious food, various shops, entertainment, water sports facilities and more than enough beach beds. Even for cyclists, there are cycle paths along the promenade, which we like to use.
If something is high on the agenda in Fuengirola, it is to continue to develop the city and its surroundings and make them more beautiful. We see the city becoming more beautiful every year and of course the beaches have developed along with it. We like to share our tips for the best places along the Paseo MarÃtimo, at walking distance from our flat.
The first beach you encounter from Marbella towards Fuengirola is El Ejido. It is also known as Playa del Castillo, the Castle Beach. This beach can be recognised by the colourful boats that line it. Many families use these boats for a fire or bbq. One of the unique spots of Fuengirola, perfect for a beautiful photo, with castle or sea in the background!
The next beach is Santa Amalia, connected to Playa El Ejido by a suspension bridge that can already be seen from the motorway when coming from Marbella on the A7. This bridge is only suitable for walking or cycling.
After Santa Amalia comes Playa San Francisco, a very well looked after beach with many facilities. This beach is about 300 metres long, and quickly crowded in the summer. After the high season, tranquillity returns.
The port of Fuengirola is the next stop. A place full of boats, shops, water sports facilities and plenty of restaurants and bars. People come here for the food, the views, the shops and activities such as fishing, diving, sailing or renting a jet ski. Also, the big plans that Fuengirola, with the support of the European Union, will develop here by 2024, will make the city even more diverse and attractive. And Apartment Summer is located on walking distance of this new plan!
Los Boliches is one of the most popular beaches in Fuengirola and offers everything you could want for a day at sea. Beach beds, parasols, playgrounds, restaurants. The best thing about this beach, in our opinion, are the many Spanish families that can be found here, the ultimate holiday feeling!
A beach club is called a chiringuito in Spanish. The chiringuitos come in all shapes and sizes. From local and small to a bit more luxurious and a bit bigger, there is something for everyone. One of our favourites is the Sardinas from the grill, once you have tasted these delicacies grilled on a skewer, the holiday feeling is complete. With a cold beer, which is a cana in Spanish, or a delicious glass of wine, the full enjoyment has begun!
Los Boliches has been awarded the Bandera Azul (Blue Flag) several times. These only go to beaches that are well looked after, nature-friendly, safe and with excellent water quality. This is also one of the widest beaches in Fuengirola, with excellent access to the sea.
Had enough lazing around? Hire a pedalo, go water-skiing or play beach volley on one of the nets on the beach! Beach volleyball and beachtennis are the most practised sports on the beach. The little ones are also thought of, as they can have fun in the many playgrounds along the beach.
Playa de Torreblanca is the beach closest to Malaga. This beach has a completely different feel. Especially when it is a bit busier in Fuengirola, it can be a bit quieter here. It is easily accessible by bicycle on the cycle path or by train from Fuengirola or Malaga. Just get off at the Torreblanca stop. From there, the beach is just a short walk down the hill. Playa de Torreblanca lies on the border between Fuengirola and neighbouring Benalmádena. On this stretch of sand, there is room to sunbathe for a kilometre. There are also boats for hire, or you can windsurf, kayak or fish. Fishing is only allowed from the shore during the low season; during the high season, it is not allowed.
